The goal of SLS Technique is to teach you how to use your voice to sing freely and clearly anywhere within your vocal array. Created by Hollywood vocal coach Seth Riggs, Speech Level Singing (SLS) is a revolutionary vocal training technique that maximizes your vocal abilities in any style of singing. This technique guarantees an effortless use of your voice, allowing vocal expression with one connected voice without breaks. SLS is very much versatile and sustains every trend of music (i.e.: pop, rock, theatre, country and opera). It is the underpinning upon which any singer can build style and artistic eminence.
In many cases SLS rehabilitates vocal damage caused by poor teaching or years of abuse, that could otherwise limit or even end a career, or worse - require continual medical intervention. SLS training will both improve your voice allowing you to sing safely and with greater range, no "cracks," "breaks," or loss of strength in the middle connection.
Most frequently, the diaphragm is the major concern for singers. So much time is spent trying to learn the proper way of breathing in order to support your resonance. What most people do not know is that it is the coordination of muscles inside the larynx that determines the control and flexibility of the voice. The larynx, the bump in the middle of your neck just below your chin is the home to your vocal chords. A lifted larynx while singing results in tension, deformation of words and a break (disconnected) voice. Unfortunately, most singers make efforts to sing in their natural voice and in fact are straining by using their outer muscles to produce sound. This results in a raised or “high” larynx, which is very damaging to the chords. SLS technique enables you to keep the larynx relaxed and stable – eliminating outer muscle activity and strain.
I am not concerned with what you sing, only how you sing it. Our goal is to train the vocal chords to make the accurate adjustment of balancing with the airflow. To sing with a well balanced, blended voice, the chords must come together with the proper balance of air passage and muscle strength. This will allow the vocalist to produce the proper resonance shifts through his/her bridges with no glitches – resulting in a freer vocal tone – which is a balanced blend of top, middle, and bottom harmonic qualities. This will allow you to sing freely while at the same time be in conversation. SLS allows you to get back to the joy of singing!
